First and foremost i am totally for law abiding citizens having the ability to own firearms. Just want to put that out there before anyone gets the wrong idea. Now on to the show.
Gun control in my eyes is a good idea as long as it does not involve seizure of said guns. Now i know the big issue now is the AR style rifles. No AR styled rifles should not be banned. Reason being is because we all need a way to defend ourselves from enemies foreign and domestic. Common citizens do not have the military to defend us. Now in order to have effective gun control we need some clear and precise language that everyone can understand. Here is how i would do it if i were President.
#1. All high capacity magazines over ten rounds would be banned. This goes for rifles, handguns, and shotguns. The only exception to this rule is military. Federal, State, and local law enforcement must abide by these new rules as well. I know some of you are saying why law enforcement. Here is my answer. In law enforcement you have a select few who like to skirt the law and do favors for friends or family. Now what happens when you have a state trooper who decides to give his wife a high capacity magazine, and she decides she has had enough and goes on a killing spree? Accountability and punishment are not enough. MILITARY ONLY.
#2. Federal licensing of all firearms, pistols, handguns and rifles. Now how could you accomplish this? First we can make the rules so that everyone who has a firearm must first get a federal firearms license. Now this license does not give you the right to carry that firearm just to own it. All firearms must have a serial number and when you buy it the serial number goes on your federal firearms license. Now how will this work. First you file for a federal firearms license to own firearms not sell. You apply through the A.T.F. website. Once approved you will be given a federal firearm license to own a firearm. Now you take that license into the gun shop and purchase the rifle you want. The shop owner puts your license and the application with serial number of said rifle on the application and does an Instant check through the A.T.F. website. You get a yes within 2-5 hours and away you go. The rifle and serial number of said rifle are on your license and you are now legal to own it. By doing this the A.T.F. now knows who owns that rifle and has verified that the owner is legal to have it.
#3. Require that all interested gun owners have a Psychological evaluation by a licensed Psychologist before issuing a federal firearms license. Make it to where the gun owner has to be evaluated every 1 - 3 or 5 years. Psych meds. at any point in life and no gun for life. This will eliminate mentally challenged people from buying a gun.
#4. Make the penalties for possessing a firearm without a license to do so harsher. For instance if you possess a firearm without a license but have the ability to get a license , punishable of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 dollar fine. Now if you possess a firearm and you can not legally have one , punishable by 5 years in prison for possessing a weapon without the legal right to do so.
#5. Make all gun owners have a bio-metric gun safe for storage of all weapons. This will eliminate any unwarranted use of their weapons.
#6. Make all gun owners have to take a gun safety course and have that attached to the license as well.
#7. All gun owners will be restricted to 3 rifles 3 shotguns and 3 pistols. Come on people i know some of you are gun lovers and have one of every manufacturer. But why do you really need any more than nine? I mean correct me if i am wrong but you can only shoot one at a time.
These are just a few of the measures i would put into place if i were President. I guess it's kind of good i'm not huh?
